A comprehensive Japanese-learning app built around Spaced Repetition — pairing UI design and motion with a passion for the language for my final capstone at Oregon State University.
With thousands of language-learning apps available, why create another? As a Japanese learner, I found many excellent resources, but none were truly comprehensive — combining SRS (Spaced Repetition Software) for vocabulary, writing systems, and grammar. By integrating the best features from various apps and gathering feedback from learners at different levels, I aimed to build a well-rounded resource.

I approached this as a way to explore new applications of my design skills — particularly UI design — alongside my passion for Japanese. Not being fluent, I collaborated with professors, students, and my personal tutor to develop a robust foundation of learning materials for the app.
The app's core feature, Spaced Repetition, reinforces vocabulary, grammar, and writing systems by spacing reviews at optimal intervals — just before information fades from memory. This significantly boosts long-term retention and recall.
